Akkasah, the Photography Archive at New York University Abu Dhabi, is home to an archive of the photographic heritage of the Middle East and North Africa. Akkasah is dedicated to documenting and preserving the diverse histories and practices of photography from the region, their growing archive contains at present over 33,000 images. 

The Sufrah, a prevalent household item in Muslim homes in Kerala, was a round woven mat used to set the stage for communal meals. People would gather and share food around the Sufrah.
 
Our project, Around The Sufrah, draws inspiration from this cultural artifact. It is a participatory and collaborative visual research endeavour with the objective of archiving contributions of mostly mappila women from early 20th century.

Lest We Forget is an innovative archival and research initiative that documents Emirati vernacular cultural memory and generates contemporary responses through the use of artistic language. Lest We Forget collaborates with individuals, families and communities to create artistic books, exhibitions, films, animations, product designs and even an opera.

The Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, people with print disabilities, and the general public. Our mission is to provide Universal Access to All Knowledge.
